Members of the Cityscapes Team have been volunteering with the children at Ellis Memorial over on Berkeley Street in Boston, MA. All of the kids painted pumpkins and planted their very own mums in small pots. We are doing monthly plant activities with the kids at Ellis memorial and also at Tufts Floating Hospital. It is important to start plant education at a young age and the children enjoy the hands on learning experience!

Laura Eubanks from Design for Serenity said she conceived the pumpkin planter idea three years ago after wanting to do something different with Trader Joe’s pumpkins. Her process involves gluing sphagnum moss and succulents to the pumpkin rather than cutting it open, to prolong the life of the pumpkin. The succulents, she says, don’t mind the glue — even if you’re using a hot glue gun to set the design quickly. Visit her website at http://designforserenity.com/
